The original Triumph Scrambler was produced from 2006 to 2016 and, among other things, it was noted for its 60s-style appearance and off-road capabilities. The Scrambler 1200 represents a 2019 revival, with an increased engine size (1200cc as opposed to 865cc) while maintaining the retro aesthetics of its forbear.
The current-generation Scramble isn’t simply an exercise in nostalgia, however. It’s an extremely capable bike whether you choose to ride it on or off road. It comes in a choice of variants too: XC, XE, XE Chrome Edition, XE Gold Line and XC Gold Line.
Entry-level XC models are ready to rock ‘n’ roll, with crossover spills and thrills generated by a potent 1200cc engine that produces 89bhp and 110Nm of torque. Yes, the Scrambler 1200’s motor delivers plenty of grunt and full-throated character whether you’re riding a smoothly surfaced highway or a less-than-perfect side road.
It’s an easy bike to live with too, its Euro 5 engine returning up to 51.1mpg while producing CO2 emissions from 105g/km.
All models are fitted with fully adjustable Showa upside-down forks and Brembo M50 brakes. Standard-issue riding aids include switchable Anti-lock Braking System, switchable Traction Control and a torque-assisted clutch. A minimum of five riding modes are featured too: Road, Rain, Sport, Rider-configurable and Off-road.
Tech highlights include keyless ignition, single-button Cruise Control, under-seat USB charging for your portable devices and easy-to-identify illuminated switches. A multifunctional and customisable TFT instrument dash also features.
