KTM's ingenuity has condensed the winning formula of their larger 2-stroke engines into the compact 85 cc engine. Equipped with a 6-speed gearbox, it delivers class-leading power and rideability across the entire rev range. The adjustable powervalve tailors power delivery to track conditions and rider skill, ensuring competitors are the ones left astonished by its performance.
The KTM 85 SX's cylinder boasts a 47mm bore and 48.95mm stroke, featuring a sophisticated power valve system controlling both the exhaust valve and sub exhaust ports. This setup provides excellent torque and midrange performance, reducing the need for excessive clutch use in loamy or sandy conditions. An adjuster screw allows customization of the power valve's opening time.
The lightweight 6-speed gearbox in the KTM 85 SX is built to withstand tough conditions. Precisely matched gear ratios facilitate quick and confident shifts. A screw-secured front sprocket and diaphragm spring enhance reliability. The "no-dirt" gear shifter design prevents dirt buildup.

The 2024 KTM 85 SX features 'big wheel' Excel rims, powdercoated in black, with a 19-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear. These are mounted on CNC-machined hubs and fitted with MAXXIS MX-ST tires, offering outstanding straight-line stability and traction for chasing the holeshot.
The KTM 85 SX's airbox is designed for peak performance within its limited space while maintaining top-level filter protection. The Twin Air filter and filter cage feature a secure, tool-free mounting system for quick and easy maintenance, minimizing pit time.
Equipped with 'no-dirt' footpegs, the KTM 85 SX has a self-cleaning system that ensures the footpegs return to their original position, providing consistent control in all conditions.
