Electric Vehicles Explained.

There are four key types of electric vehicle on the market. Below is a brief overview of each.

Mild hybrid Mild hybrid vehicles have a combustion engine supported by a small battery which helps to boost performance and improve efficiency. They aren’t capable of travelling on electric power alone, and the battery is recharged by the engine.

Hybrid Full or self-charging hybrid cars have a combustion engine as well as a small battery and electric motor. The motor primarily supports the engine, and is charged by it. These vehicles can only cover a few miles on all-electric power.

Plug-in Hybrid Plug-in hybrid cars are equipped with a larger battery and combustion engine. They can typically travel around 25-30 miles on electric power alone and must be connected to a power source to charge the battery.

Electric Electric cars replace a combustion engine with a battery and electric motor. This needs to be connected to a power source to charge. Most modern EVs can cover over 100 miles on a single charge.
